So I got some African dwarf frogs to add to our tropical fish tank.  I didn’t even know that frogs like this existed, but I just happened to come across them at the pet store. I knew that we would like them because I think frogs are so cool. But what I did not know is that I was going to become obsessed with them.  They are just so cool and funny and very entertaining. They mostly hang out on the bottom of the tank, but they do need to swim to the top in order to get some air.  And they sort of just crawl around on the bottom, sometimes sort of hopping a little bit.  We have a couple that are gray and also some that are white in color. The white ones are so small and skinny and really pretty funny looking. 

It’s so interesting to me that they live in the water, but they need air in order to breathe.  They have a couple different ways of getting the air that they need.  

Sometimes they’ll swim to the top, grab a quick gulp of air, and zoom back down to the bottom.  

Other times after they get some air, they’ll just sort of casually float back down to the bottom with their arms and legs all stretched out.  I guess it just depends on if they’re in a hurry to get back to what they were doing or not.  

Other times they’ll go up to the top and just float there for a while.  Maybe so they don’t have to keep going up and down.

It’s very neat to watch and I had no idea how entertaining these little guys were going to be.  I wouldn’t mind having a tankful of them!   

We also got some Nerite snails for the tank. It was surprising to me what a great job they did with cleaning up the algae and they did it quickly. We actually ended up getting them some algae wafers just in case there wasn’t enough algae and that also disappeared pretty fast…. hungry little guys!
