🐶 Your Dog Can Smell Your Stress 

Dogs can actually smell when you’re stressed.  Science tells us they can smell when we’re stressed.  When you’re anxious, overwhelmed, or sad, your body releases subtle chemical changes in your breath and sweat.

Your dog knows. They know on the mornings you’re holding it together. They know on the nights you’re too quiet. They know when your smile isn’t genuine.

And what do they do with that information? They stay closer. Studies show that when dogs detect human stress, they often become more attentive, more watchful, more connected. They hover nearby. Some lean against you. Some rest their head on your knee. They follow you from room to room.  Because they care.

Your dog doesn’t need an explanation. They don’t need the details.  They just need to be near you. There’s something profoundly comforting about that — the idea that your dog is so tuned into your emotional state and cares so much that he just needs to be near you.  When we’re anxious, the chemical changes in our breath and skin don’t go unnoticed.
